While there is no universal definition of trauma, professionals generally agree that trauma is distress that occurs due to an overwhelming amount of stress, often caused by a difficult psychological or physical event. However, what is traumatic to one may not be traumatic to another. What might be traumatic for a child may be an unexpected or confusing response for a parent and vice versa. A parent’s own response to trauma may color how they see a child’s experience. Trauma may show up in many ways, including anxiety, depression, behavior changes, challenges regulating emotions like anger.

Trauma-informed therapy requires attention, awareness, and cultural humility. Ria is trained in Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as well as Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to provide safe spaces to understand and find relief and freedom from symptoms associated with the impact of trauma.
